It’s not Avon Calling, but the City of Owen Sound.
The City has increased its corporate calling program to meet more Business and Community leaders.
Economic Development Manager Steve Furness says it’s all parts of the City’s effort to attract new businesses and retain the ones that already are located in Owen Sound.
He says the message the City received from last fall’s economic roundtable from local business leaders was they wanted to be consulted more often so civic officials were aware of their concerns.
Furness says by talk and and more importantly listening to existing businesses, the city can help ensure projects and investments move forward and any barriers that may exist can be dealt with.
He says local businesses are the ones creating jobs in the community and its important that the city do everything possible to support them.
Furness says in addition the city also is able to help direct businesses to other government agencies that can provide additional support and backup.
He says this corporate calling program is not just aimed at the larger employers in the community but the smaller mom and pop operations as well because everyone is important.
Furness says these discussions are part of the City’s new economic development strategy and a second part of this program will be the gathering of statistics on specific business sectors.
