The Hanover and District Hospital will hire four or five nursing graduates this year.
It’s all part of a Ministry funded program in which the province will pay the full salary of the nurse graduates for six full months.
During that time — each nurse graduate will work under the supervision of an experienced nurse who will serve as their mentor.
Once the six months are up — the graduates will have the chance to apply for part time work at the Hospital with hopes of securing a full time position in the future.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Reta Sproule calls it a wonderful program.
She says it provides nurse graduates with a greater comfort level entering the field of nursing thanks to the mentorship program.
Sproule says the program also goes a long way in addressing the Hospital’s staffing challenges.
She says the nurse graduates will be able to help fill the upcoming vacancies that will be created by retiring nurses.
The Hanover Hospital has also received a 10 thousand dollar grant that will be used to top up the salaries of nurses who will serve as mentors to the graduates.
