Be prepared for a summer of high gas prices.
That is the forecast from Liberal MP Dan McTeague who tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, one dollar a litre or more gasoline prices is not out of the question.
In fact he says the sky is the limit because there is competition in the petroleum industry.
McTeague says lack of refineries dwindling competition and government in action to correct either one means once again consumers are going to be gouged by the big oil companies.
He also says this lack of competition is threatening to put the small independent gas stations out of business because they have to buy their products from the big refiners who in turn undercut the independents prices.
McTeague says if the Federal Government was serious about making sure consumers are paying a fair price for gas they would bring back the Price Information Service that was in place in 2004 and 2005.
That allowed consumers to know about the supply situation, the demand situation, the price situation and offered a comparison of prices across the country.
McTeague says that allowed both consumers and legislators to know whether or not they were being take for a ride by the oil industry.
He says the situation now is that were are flying blind.
