Any students still not sure what kind of a summer job they want may be interested in something the YMCA is offering.
The Summer Work Student Exchange is a national program for teens aged 16 and 17 looking for practical work experience as well as the desire to improve their second language — whether it be French or English.
Grey Bruce Co-ordinator Lesley Timbury says its a six week program where students are matched with youth from another province and hosted in each others’ homes.
The students are given a full time paid work placement in various jobs including landscaping, daycare and working with non-profits.
Timbury says immersing yourself in a second language, especially at work, can sometimes be challenging but also very rewarding.
The exchange program is also looking for billets.
Timbury says sometimes participants’ families can’t reciprocate by taking in the other student so they’re also looking for host families.
She says parental supervision is required for the six weeks as well as some transportation to and from work.
Applications will be accepted until the end of May.
