The Bluewater District School Board has honoured 10 parents, volunteers, and other support people from across Grey-Bruce with this year’s Awards of Excellence.
They’re presented to volunteers who contribute to the betterment of education and one is nominated from each “family” of schools by parents, students, or staff.
Kincardine parent Chandra Tripathi has served as a member of the home and school association at two area schools and has worked to promote multiculturalism and diversity awareness.
He says he believes in three things, integrating values with children, understanding the environment, and respect and recognition.
Tripathi was also the driving force behind the establishment of Bruce Power’s annual Multicultural Day.
OPP Constable Sue McPherson received an award and was nominated by the Grey Highlands Secondary School Family of Schools.
McPherson serves as a Community Liaison Officer providing safety support to schools and assisting with the VIP program for grade six students.
McPherson says she tries to approach every situation as a possible learning experience and will often consider an education component before laying charges.
Board Chair Jennifer Yenssen says it’s nice to take the opportunity to recognize what volunteers do and echoed statements from many award recipients who said their honour of being recognized really represented all of the school volunteers in their communities.
