Some hospitals in the region are getting help to reduce wait times in emergency rooms.
The South West Local Health Integration Network has received funding from the province to focus on reducing the amount of time patients wait in the E-R.
The funding will cover three physician assistants in the Hanover, Wingham and Goderich hospitals.
No word on how much money each hospital will receive.
But the hospitals will each be able to hire one physician-assistant under the McGuinty government’s Emergency Room Wait Time Strategy.
Among their duties — physician-assistants interview patients and take medical histories, as well as perform physical exams.
The province says the move will also improve patient satisfaction.
4.1-million dollars is being made available across the province to hire a total of 27 physician-assistants.
