It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase pork barrel politics.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller is hosting a pork BBQ in support of the local food bank and Grey Bruce Pork Producers.
Miller says this BBQ is to remind consumers that eating pork is healthy and safe during this time of difficulty for the Pork industry and concerns about the H1N1 influenza virus.
He says there is absolutely no link between eating pork and catching the flu.
Miller says the initial designation of the new virus as swine fly scared many people away from pork products at a time when the industry was facing record low prices and demand for their product.
He says this is a perfect opportunity to show support for local farmers and at the same time raise funds for the food bank.
This pork BBQ gets underway at the Owen Sound Farmers Market at 11.30 AM this morning and continues to 1.30 PM.
The politicians and the Grey Bruce Pork Producers will be serving pork on a bun for two dollars.
