A lot of fuss is being made over a big circle in the Blue Mountains today.
The County held a ground breaking ceremony today for its first Roundabout located at the intersection of Grey Road 19, Grey Road 119 and Mountain Road.
Grey County Director of Transportation Gary Shaw says construction of the roundabout is a partnership between the County, the Municipality of Blue Mountains and Blue Mountains Resort.
He says after considering all the options, they believe the traffic circle is the best way to deal with the very high volume of traffic that passes through that intersection, especially during the busy ski season.
Shaw says at peak periods the road carrys in excess of 17 thousand vehicles in a 24 hour period.
He says a roundabout was found to be the best alternative to moving this amount of traffic without disruption at the intersection.
Shaw says he has studied several roundabouts in the Kitchener area and found at first motorists were a little cautious about using them but quickly adapted to merging with other vehicles.
Completion date for the 1.5 million dollar project is expected to be early in September.
