A study to determine Kincardine’s municipal recreation needs for future years is almost finished.
Councillor Guy Anderson says another meeting was held with recreation groups and the major recommendation in the draft plan is for additional gymnasium space in the community.
Anderson admits that came as a surprise.
Existing gymnasium space — including at local schools — are being used at full capacity and there are waiting lists for groups wanting to book time.
Council has opted not to include the 2.2 million dollar project in its current applications for federal infrastructure grants.
Anderson says the next step in the recreation study process is a public meeting to get final input and then the consultant will present the report to the Recreation Department and then Council.
The recreation study has been underway for the past year.
