The estate of a Tiverton resident keeps on giving to the fire station in that community.
Fire Chief Jamie MacKinnon says firefighters routinely responded to medical calls made by Harold Smith who in turn left around 24 thousand dollars to the Municipality of Kincardine expressly for the Tiverton fire station.
MacKinnon says Smith saw firefighters as volunteers whom he could help make a difference in the community by giving them some extra funding.
He says the money is in a special reserve account for purchases connected with the Tiverton station.
MacKinnon says as projects come up at the Tiverton fire hall, the decision is usually made to seek council’s approval to use the special fund to pay for them.
The projects do not have to be specifically for firefighting equipment, but can be for enhancements and accessories at the facility.
This year’s purchases will be a large plaque honouring all past and present Tiverton firefighters, along with a barbecue for use at fire department and community events.
