An Owen Sound student has placed third in the provincial level of a writing competition.
Sabrina Perry entered both a poem and an essay in the Royal Canadian Legion’s writing contest for Remembrance Day.
The Grade 12 West Hill student’s essay won the regionals and was moved on to the provincial round, where it placed third.
Perry won a bronze medal, framed certificate and one hundred dollars.
Perry says she focused her essay on the minute of silence observed during remembrance day ceremonies.
She says the legion’s contest is a great way to get youth involved in the act of remembering, because that’s exactly what they all had to do in order to write their entries.
Perry says she loves to write and was thrilled to get this recognition for something that is a passion of hers.
She hopes to focus on languages and music at university.
