Local provincial parks are set for the first long weekend of the camping season.
At MacGregor Point Provincial Park in Saugeen Shores, Superintendent Chris Tomsett says camper turnout depends a lot on the weather, and things will be busy if conditions are good.
As of late Thursday evening, several dozen non-electrical sites were still available at MacGregor Point.
At Inverhuron Provincial Park, almost all of the park’s electrical and non-electrical sites are booked, with just a small handful still available for the weekend.
Many non-electrical campsites are also still not reserved at Sauble Falls Provincial Park.
A total alcohol ban is also in effect at all three parks until and including the holiday Monday.
Tomsett says that also has an effect on how fast campsites fill up.
He says it does keep some campers away, but believes it makes the park atmosphere more enjoyable for those who do decide to spend the long weekend at provincial parks.
