The Scone intersection will be done by the end of 2010.
Bruce County Highways Committee Chair Ron Oswald made that proclamation at yesterdays meeting at the County Administration Office in Walkerton.
Oswald — the Mayor of Arran-Elderslie — says if they leave it until 2011 then there is a chance that it may never get done at all.
He adds they are putting on the final coat of asphalt on the Grey-Bruce Line and would like to see the road from Alvanley to Scone done before Councils term is up.
A meeting was held in Chesley on March 16th to discuss the number of options in improving the intersection connecting the Grey-Bruce Line with Grey Road 25 and Bruce Road 10.
Both Bruce and Grey Counties have narrowed it down to 2, both options would keep it a 4-way intersection.
One is to install signals and add left turn lanes from the north and south, the other is to straighten out the curves coming from the east and west towards the intersection.
Oswald says it could also be a combination of both options but it will need work.
And he says the roundabout is no longer an option since it would cost around 1.5 million dollars to construct and it is too big a price tag for both Counties to handle.
Oswald says both Counties are asking their consultant — Henderson and Paddon — and architect — Genivar — to come up with a design based on the 2 options.
He says it will be brought back to both Councils for approval.
Also, construction on a section of the Grey-Bruce Line north of the Scone intersection is expected to start May 20th and go for 12 weeks.
Oswald says it will be the last of the projects that will require closure of the road.
He says the 3 businesses near that area — Cedar Rail Camp, Triple M Metal LP, and Harley Blues Caf — will all remain open during construction.
