Kincardine Council has made some changes to it’s emergency tiered response system — the process used when firefighters and paramedics respond to medical calls.
The new policy aims to deliver a uniform level of service from both the Kincardine and Tiverton fire stations.
Fire Chief Jamie MacKinnon says the Tiverton station has been doing tiered response medical calls for about 10 years.
He says the same service is provided from the Kincardine station, but with a 15 minute delay built in because an ambulance is always stationed in the community to also respond to medical calls.
MacKinnon says the new London-based dispatch system does not allow for that delay, and that meant there could no longer be a difference in service between the two stations.
MacKinnon says the Emergency Services Committee decided to try having the same level of tiered reponse service from each station and recommended to council that the change be made.
The new system is expected to streamline the medical response calls for the Tiverton Fire Station and is expected to lead to a slight increase in the number of medical calls at the Kincardine station.
