Owen Sound Police are swearing in their youngest ever Chief.
Grade 5 student Lindsey Marck will be Chief for a day Thursday.
Deputy Chief Bill Sornberger says the Notre Dame student won their essay contest out of over 100 entries.
Sornberger says the kids had to write about how they would stop bullying if they were Chief of Police.
Marck will be sworn in at a special ceremony at the police building Thursday morning at 9:45.
She will be issued a Chief’s uniform and will then spend the day experiencing first hand what it’s like to be a police officer.
Sornberger says Marck will get to participate in police defensive tactics training, conduct a forensic investigation, and patrol the city.
Sornberger says like the Chief’s Citation awards, this event is a first for Owen Sound Police Services.
He says they thought it was important to create a relationship with the younger kids in the city.
Sornberger says they focused on the Grade 5’s because it’s a nice introduction to the D.A.R.E program which starts in Grade 6.
And again, tours of the new police building are also available throughout the day as Police Week continues.
