Four Port Elgin blood donors will be part of 550 people who will be honoured for their continuing commitment to giving blood.
On Soundingboard Canadian Blood Services communications specialist Veronica Magee says they will be recognized at the 11th annual Donor Recognition Ceremony in London, Ontario tonight.
Doug Alberts, Paul Foehner and Montgomery Mcmeekin will be honoured for donating 50 units each to date.
Karen Jacobs Schroeder will be recognized for the 75 units she has donated to date.
Magee says collectively, these four Port Elgin donors alone have given enough blood to have helped save the lives of up to 825 people.
Magee says the Canadian Blood Services is doing OK right now with a good supply of blood on hand but she points out that could change almost overnight.
She says her group is now trying to entice younger people to give what with the aging population.
Magee hopes young people in high school, college or university will consider becoming regular blood donors.
Minimum age for giving is 17.
