A major new hotel development could be coming to Walkerton.
Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato says investors are interested in building a new Best Western in town.
He says having the brand name is a positive sign because it is recognized around the world and thinks the town has a shot at landing the development.
Bagnato says the hotel would be located in the Eastridge Business Park near the Clean Water Centre.
He says the hotel could attract new events to town such as Silver Stick hockey tournaments, baseball tournaments, conventions, as well as serving business travellers who come to Walkerton for activities at the county building.
Bagnato says 26 investors are involved and have 1.3 million dollars, but they require 1.3 million more before they can go to banks to seek financing.
He says securing that financing could be difficult because Walkerton is not located on a major body of water and consultants could recommend that banks not offer financing.
Bagnato believes a hotel development can be successful in a midwestern Ontario community and thinks the Clean Water Centre will help boost business at the proposed hotel in Walkerton.
