A group of local cottagers are supporting their fellow Muskokans with a generous health care contribution of $135,000 to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation’s Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.
The fund was started to acquire equipment and supplies related to the pandemic, including three new ICU beds at a cost of $45,000 each.
In an earlier post shared over social media, South Muskoka Hospital Foundation Executive Director Colin Miller said while they don’t know what’s coming down the pipeline, they don’t want money to be an issue.
“If the hospital needs something and we have money in the bank, we can buy it right away,” he added.
Foundation chair, Jodie Evans, also expressed her gratitude to all the individuals, local businesses, service clubs and other community associations who’ve supported the Fund.
Concerning the contribution from the group of cottagers, Evans was quick to point out that Muskoka’s cottagers and seasonal residents have always been strong supporters of the hospital.
“I am extremely grateful for everything they do to support our local economy and the contributions they make to support every corner of our community,” said Evans.
Speaking on behalf of the group of cottagers who made the gift, the donor, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were pleased to contribute.
“Muskoka is important for all of us – the place our families come together and grow together,” they said. “Supporting local healthcare and community services is just the right thing to do. We’re all neighbours up here and we wanted to do our part to make sure our Muskoka community remains strong.”
