It was an exciting night for Hanover as the town held a gala evening to mark the end of the silent phase of fundraising for its new Regional Recreation Complex.
Now the town is kicking off the public portion of the campaign.
1.75 million dollars – that’s the campaign goal of the Hanover Regional Recreation Fundraising Committee.
80 per cent of that 1.75 million dollar goal has already been reached through the silent fundraising portion of the campaign with 1.4 million dollars in donations.
This just leaves another 325 thousand dollars to raise during the public fundraising portion.
Fundraising Chair Dave Hocking says the silent fundraising campaign exceeded everyone’s wildest expectation.
It took just 50 donors to raise the 1.4 million dollars, including three Double Platinum donors who donated 600 thousand dollars in total.
Perish and Heimbecker’s New Life Mills and P & H Foods divisions donated 300 thousand dollars, while Hanover Honda and the Hanover Lions Club each donated 150 thousand dollars.
With the fundraising campaign set at 1.75 million dollars, this just leaves the town of Hanover with a matching 1.75 million dollars to cover on the entire 10.5 million dollar project.
The remaining 7 million dollars will be paid by the federal and provincial governments.
About 200 people attended the gala evening last night.
As part of the fundraising celebration, the town is hosting ‘The Last Blast in the Barn’ this weekend.
It’s the last time any events will be held at the old coliseum which will be demolished in June.
