Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, believes the harmonization of taxes is good news for farmers.
In Lucknow Thursday night — Dombrowsky told reporters and farmers that the single tax means farmers will only be doing one tax, and items like farm vehicles and office equipment will now be exempted.
When asked about the harmonization of the sales tax and if it will be applied to the purchase of agricultural lands, Dombrowsky says yes, but doesn’t understand why some people think that will be a problem.
At the present time when farmers sell land to other farmers there is GST applied and then it’s rebated 100 per cent she says the same rebate will happen when their is a single sales tax.
Dombrowsky says it’s really important for the farming community to know that they’re reducing the corporate business tax.
She says it will be reduced from 5 per cent to 4 per cent and believes it will be a significant savings.
Dombrowsky was in Lucknow as a guest of Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell to speak to local agricultural stakeholders.
