Owen Sound’s bid for a regional recreation centre is getting support from Georgian Bluffs.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says his council decided to support the pool portion of the application, since Georgian Bluffs has no pool in the municipality.
While Barfoot supports an aquatic fitness facility — they are not supporting the portion of the Owen Sound bid for a twin-rink arena in the complex, since Georgian Bluffs has arenas already built.
Barfoot declined to pinpoint a cost for the community saying it was early in the process.
Owen Sound is looking at a 33 million dollar recreation complex and is applying this week for Federal and provincial dollars to help pay for the project.
Georgian Bluffs support comes despite some disagreements with Owen Sound in recent months including a move to expand the boundaries of Springmount.
Mayor Barfoot says they look at each issue individually, and decided this application should get council’s support.
