It’s a shocking fact but women in Bruce and Grey have a 15 per cent higher rate of colon cancer than in the rest of Ontario.
With that in mind and with the increase in colorectal cancer in men as well — some new developments have been created to speed up the screening process in this market.
Public Health Nurse Karen Croker says details of the program will be unveiled tonight at an annual public forum put on by the Grey Bruce Health Services Southampton Community Advisory Committee.
Kroker says they now have “roaming scopes” which increases the capacity for testing and cuts down on the wait times at the various hospitals in the region.
She says the scopes are in cases and plastic boxes and a dedicated team of workers travels to the various hospitals providing the tests.
Kroker says more details will be unveiled at tonight’s meeting.
In addition to that program, interim CEO and vice president of strategic planning, community relations and support Maureen Solecki will be at the meeting to talk about changes at the Grey Bruce Health Services.
Tonight’s meeting is at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton and begins at 7 PM.
