The CEO of Bruce Telecom says they are in good financial and organizational shape.
The municipally-owned communications company has over 15 million dollars in reserves and expenses last year were over 190 thousand dollars under budget.
Bruce Telecom will be making a 1.2 million dollar payment to the Municipality of Kincardine this year.
This year, the company is focusing on expanding its fiber optic network, improving internet and television service, and preparing for local phone service competition that is expected to begin within months.
Federal regulators have recently allowed for local phone service competition and cable TV companies are among those interested in entering the market.
CEO Michael Andrews says they want to be prudent and prepared for when the other service providers start offering phone service.
Bruce Telecom is also expecting to roll out its own cell phone service in the coming months.
Andrews says the service isn’t available yet, but hopes it is sometime this year.
Andrews says they continue to try and meet consumer demand and are focusing on the four exchanges Bruce Telecom traditionally serves.
