Owen Sound Council will be trying get all of its ducks in a row as they prepare to try and get funding for a multi purpose multi million dollar recreation centre.
City Staff along with officials from the Family Y will present Council tonight with a proposal of what the facilities the Recreation centre should have and some estimates of the total cost of the project.
Councillor Deb Haswell she and other Councillors need to see some solid number surrounding the cost and how much debenture room they have over the next 15 years or so.
Council is looking at a deadline of May 1st to apply for funding for either a single rink or double rink recreation centre that also would include a full size swimming pool, gym and walking track.
Haswell also says its time for people in the neighbouring communities who would use this Recreation centre to pressure their politicians to support and partner with Owen Sound with the funding and design of the centre.
She says this could be the start of a lot more regional cooperation between Owen Sound and Meaford and Georgian Bluffs.
Haswell says the importance of this type of facility cannot be stressed as it would be a huge economic generator for not just the city but the entire region and could a strong magnet to attract young professionals like doctors and nurses to this area.
