The University of Western Ontario is reaching out to the shoreline of Lake Huron.
The Lake Huron Learning Collaborative — a volunteer organization that brings post-secondary courses to coastal communities — has arranged to have UWO provide a writing course in Kincardine in January 2010.

Co-Chair John Smallwood says it’s a natural extension of the success the collaborative has had over the past four years providing post-secondary courses in Goderich.
Smallwood says it will be a half-credit course.
He sees it as a litmus test for Western to see if the service will be successful.
Smallwood says they’ve waived the entry requirements for the second-year writing course for students that have some previous background.
The collaborative will use classroom space at the former Westario Power building on Queen Street in Kincardine.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the collaborative is just one of the agencies interested in providing courses there.
The E Learn Network also operates from the site, providing online courses from colleges and universities across the province.
