A local Conservative MP is confident the Harper government will bring the long-gun registry to a vote this year, as long as there is no election forced by the Opposition.
That would be welcome news for most of our listeners.
A recent on-line survey by Bayshore Broadcasting News resulted in 92 percent saying we should scrap the long-gun registry.
Only 8 percent felt it should be kept.
Meanwhile, Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller says some Opposition rural members will likely pay at the polls, after they voted in favour of a Bloc motion to extend the gun program.
Tuesday night, Miller says several NDP and Liberal members from Northern Ontario who have voiced their opposition to the gun program voted to extend the life of the registry.
He believes leaders Jack Layton and Michael Ignatieff forced them to change their votes.
For years, the Conservatives have railed against the gun registry, claiming it is a huge waste of money and does nothing to help make Canadians safer.
Miller disputes the claim in the Toronto Star that police officers want to keep the gun registry.
The local Conservative MP says every police chief and police officer he has talked with, claim it’s a nightmare program that doesn’t work.
