West Hill Collegiate in Owen Sound will be sending its team of to the Ontario Envirothon Championships near Cambridge next month.
That school emerged as the winner at the Grey Bruce Envirothon competition near Lions Head earlier this week.
Regional Envirothon Co-ordinator Craig Todd says another West Hill team placed second and third place went to OSCVI in Owen Sound.
Students from Peninsula Shores District High School in Wiarton and Bruce Peninsula District High School in Lions head also took part in the competition.
Todd says the competition consists students attending various outdoor stations and answering a number of environmental questions, do a number of calculations as well as giving a presentation.
He is confident the West Hill team will do well at the Provincial Championships and be good ambassadors for the region.
In fact Todd says out of the past 11 years of competition teams from Grey Bruce have won five provincial championships.
He says for a small rural area to defeat students from massive high schools in such areas as the GTA, that is a remarkable accomplishment.
