An Owen Sound man man is receiving first class recognition.
Barry Lewin, the former president of the Billy Bishop Home and Museum Board has been given a certificate of achievement.
He was honoured with the 2008 Heritage Community Recognition Certificate at last night’s Council meeting for his work with the Billy Bishop Museum.
Lewin says he feels quite honoured – but says the achievement must be shared with the rest of his staff, volunteers and the City.
He says his biggest accomplishment during his 6 year Presidency was getting the Museum out of a 30 thousand dollar debt.
Lewin says he and his staff made that possible by making Bishop more well-known in Owen Sound.
He says Bishop was an unknown factor here in his home town and they needed the local support to put the Museum in black ink.
Also during Lewins reign the Federal Government recognized The Billy Bishop Museum as a National Historic Site, the only designation of it’s kind in Grey County.
He introduced a new program honouring all local veteran and service branches as well as took on many significant capital projects.
Lewin was nominated by The Community Planning and Heritage Advisory Committee.
