A stretch of Lake Huron for a possible missing boater has ended.
A spokesperson for Search and Rescue in Trenton confirms for Bayshore Broadcasting News they had a Hercules helicopter covering an area from Southampton to Sauble Beach.
A Coast Guard cutter from Tobermory has also been called in and a request for additional help has gone to the U-S Coast Guard as well.
According to Trenton officials, they received a call just before 2 PM that a single boater along with a dog were in a canoe about two thousand feet off shore.
A witness said the canoeist was having difficulty paddling to shore with east winds gusting to 55 kilometers an hour at times.
The spokesperson says they will continue to search until dark or until they get confirmation that the boater made it safely back to shore.
She says no one has been reported missing at this time.
