The Chair of the Saugeen Conservation Authority’s Board of Directors is hoping to be a part of the hearings into Ontario’s proposed Green Energy Act.
Doug Freiburger says Conservation Ontario — the umbrella organization for all of Ontario’s conservation authorities — wants to make a presentation.
Freiburger — who is also Deputy Mayor of Saugeen Shores — is critical of the proposed legislation.
He is concerned the law will take away municipal planning responsibilities and allow the province to impose decisions regarding the development of green energy projects.
Freiburger says when it comes to Bill 150, he asks why would anyone want to give up their fundamental rights and freedoms.
Freiburger says he can’t believe any provincial government would imply that municipalities don’t know anything about their own official plans and zoning by laws.
Freiburger says he can’t be convinced the province knows how to make better planning decisions than municipalities.
