Parents are being reminded about tips to prevent a similar abduction to that of 8 year old Tori Stafford in Woodstock.
The young girl was last seen leaving school last Wednesday with an unidentified woman.
Police say it’s always a good idea to talk to children about strangers and the possibility of abduction.
OPP Constable Steve Starr says parents should make it clear that kids should never talk to strangers, get into vehicles with people they don’t know and never allow strangers into their home.
Starr tells Bayshore Broadcasting News it’s also important that children know their address, phone number and how to dial 9-1-1.
There are programs available for families such as the fingerprinting ID program.
But Starr also recommends parents use a code word with their children and trusted family and friends.
That way — if someone needed to pick up a child from school, they can use the code word and everyone knows it’s safe.
Starr recommends parents also keep current photos of their children — especially on computers — so it can be sent out quickly in case of an abduction.
