For some people in the region — today will be a day to clean up.
The City of Owen Sound is holding a Household Hazardous Waste Day today — where you can dispose of hazardous products in a safe way.
A number of residents in Kincardine will also clean up the waste around the perimeter of the municipality’s three landfill sites today.
Carol Blake is leading the church, school and community groups in the clean-up.
Chalmers Congregational Church will handle the Ward One site.
Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School will be at the Ward Two location.
The Tiverton Reunion Committee and Big Brothers and Big Sisters have been invited to look after the Ward Three landfill.
Blake says the windy conditions in Kincardine end up covering the farmland surrounding landfill sites with debris.
She says volunteers fan out just like a military march and pick up the waste.
Blake adds everytime a new group gets involved, it creates an incentive for environmental change.
The groups will also be cleaning up the area around the landfill again on Wednesday April 22nd — which is also Earth Day.
