We’ve heard enough about the harmonization tax coming to Ontario.
This weekend is the harmonization of food and wine at the first ever Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce Wine and Dine 2009.
It’s an evening of good food, unique wines, music and dancing at Gilley’s Feed Lot in Kincardine.
The owner of Joseph’s Estate Wines of Niagara on the Lake, Doctor Joseph Pohorly says they are excited about sampling their wines in an area where they haven’t been before.
Pohorly says this one on one contact with consumer is more important than ever, because people are educating themselves about fine wines and the foods that go well with the beverage.
Pojhorly — who recently appeared on Soundingboard on 98 the Beach — says they will be featuring one of their coveted Ice Wines with dessert.
Always an expensive wine because of the labour intensive process it takes to harvest the grapes during winter and the timing of the making of the wine.
Pohorly says because of this year’s cold weather, they were able to harvest during the day time hours.
Usually the process has to be done at night with temperatures around minus 10 Celsius.
Meanwhile, the vice-president of sales Alan Still says they’re looking forward to tonight’s event because it allows them an opportunity to give the wine consumer another option when purchasing wines.
Tonight’s event at Gilley’s gets underway at 6 PM, followed by dinner at 7 PM and dancing at 9 PM.
There’s also the 10th annual Vintner’s Dinner and Auction at Stone Tree tonight — which is the major fundraiser for the Georgian Bay Symphony.
