There will be another addition to staff in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula
Council has hired a new Events Co-ordinator.
Shane Sargent will begin his one year contract as the events coordinator at the beginning of May.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert says the town has quite a few festivals and with a bit of help and encouragement those events could grow to be much bigger.
Gilbert says council is looking to expand on the Wiarton Willie Festival as well as Winterfest and Sandfest in Sauble Beach.
She says part of Sargents contract is to look for provincial and federal grants available for festival and cultural events.
Gilbert says the new position is needed because a lot of grant money gets over-looked when councillors are busy with other duties
Councillor Art King says the events coordinator will give the town a chance to move forward with the 21st century.
Councillor Anna Vukovic was opposed to the new position because she said it wasn’t necessary in the current economic times.
The motion was carried 5-4 Tuesday night.
