You’ve heard of rock stars and movie stars doing it.
Now bed bugs are doing it.
They’re all making a comeback.
Public health inspector Angela Newman of the Grey Bruce Health Unit, says historically the little critters were in many public places and then died off.
Newman says there seems to be a resurgence of the blood-sucking bugs in the past five years but no one is quite sure why.
She says the good news is bed bugs aren’t known to carry diseases.
The bad news is if you have them in your home, they’re very difficult to get rid of.
She says no matter what you do eventually you’ll have to call in a professional pest control person if you have an infestation.
Newman says the bugs are about a-quarter-inch long and flat in appearance.
They are a light tan colour but turn dark-reddish brown after they have fed on blood.
The bugs are brought into the home on clothing, suitcases, even laptops particularly from people who routinely travel from one country to another and stay in hotels and motels.
You might have bed bugs if you wake up with little red bite marks on your body that can be quite itchy to some
So while you watch your favourite performer back in the limelight of acceptance, keep in mind that the bed bug is back in the limelight as well.
Newman says the incidence of bed bugs in Bruce and Grey counties is small but it does happen.
