Good news for people who have had to battle for a parking spot at the medical centre behind the hospital.
A plan is in the works to build 25 more spaces at 190 Erie Street, which is the adjoining property to the Erie Street Medical Clinic.
The property currently has a vacant home on it which will be demolished and the building materials will be offered to Habitat For Humanity.
The existing parking spaces will also be re-striped so they’ll be larger to make it easier to get in and out of.
That will bring parking for the medical building to a total of 105 spaces.
Rick Pennycook is a plannig consultant with Lakeshore Group in Toronto which represents the owner of the building, Northwest Health Care Properties.
Pennycook says the plan will promote active transportation when a walkway is built to link the centre to the hospital.
He says the new property will also be landscaped at a cost of 70 thousand dollars.
But he says he doesn’t know how much it will cost for the new parking because it will depend on the cost of the materials needed.
Pennycook expects a by-law to be passed by mid-April and then they can get a demolition permit.
He says the parking will likely be done by mid-summer.
