Quite a modest tax hike for Southgate residents.
Homeowners are looking at an overall increase of 1.4 percent this year including municipal, county and education taxes.
Mayor Don Lewis tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they could have reduced their increase to nothing but says council didn’t want to forgo topping up the municipality’s reserve funds.
Southgate has also received more than 2 million dollars in infrastructure funding which helped to reduce the roads budget.
Police services costs are going up by almost 7 percent while the planning budget was down by almost half this year after they completed their official plan.
The 3 million dollar operating budget will see the average home owner paying about 25 dollars more this year.
