The OPP are urging drivers to slow down during this blast of winter.
In fact, Grey County OPP Constable Steve Starr says conditions today are worse than what we deal with in the middle of winter.
Starr says temperatures near zero, wet snow, and ground warmed by recently mild weather are combining to create very treacherous conditions.
He adds these are the kinds of conditions it’s very easy to hydroplane on.
Starr says first of all, motorists need to slow down and drive to the conditions, which may mean going slower than the posted limit.
He also recommends postponing any trips if possible — Starr points out these conditions won’t last long.
He also adds many drivers thinking we were done with winter could be in trouble if they’ve already removed their snow tires.
Starr reminds drivers to keep their lights on for added visibility and to make sure they’re cleaned of any snow.
Starr says Grey County OPP have been called out to numerous crashes today, but fortunately none at this time have resulted in serious injury.
The same problems exist for the OPP in Southern Georgian Bay.
OPP Constable Peter Leon says the roads are in terrible shape in some places.
He says their officers have been busy, and they have had many calls for vehicles going in ditches, as well as motor vehicle collisions too.
Leon hopes people will adjust their driving for the conditions, but says many people have probably been caught off guard by the weather.
