The Family Y will make a presentation to Owen Sound Council tonight pertaining to the proposed new Recreation Centre.
The city has agreed to partner with the Family Y and have also agreed that the proposed facility should be located at Victoria Park.
However, there are many questions, especially pertaining to the funding of such a project that need to be addressed.
Tonight’s presentation from the Family Y will look at some initial aspects of the proposal.
Councillor Jim McManaman stresses that tonight is a preliminary discussion and more financial details will be presented, likely, within the next month.
The underlying belief is that the Rec Centre will have a new swimming pool as the central venue along with an ice pad and a Seniors Center.
A grassroots movement from Minor Hockey, Girls Hockey, Ringette and Figure Skating has developed and enacted an ambitious campaign to heighten the awareness for the need for a second ice pad at the proposed complex.
McManaman states the campaign has been well done and is duly noted by Council.
He believes the volume of e-mails and letters is the highest he’s seen for an issue during his tenure on council.
McManaman stresses everything pertaining to the proposed Rec Center at the moment is preliminary.
The cost of the proposed facility and the funding for such a project are the key issues that must be confirmed before anything permanent is designed regarding the make up of the complex.
