Eight names in the hopper for this year’s Tommy Cooper award.
It will be handed out tonight to the person who has made the greatest contribution to agriculture and rural living.
The award, commemorates the late Tommy Cooper, a well known provincial government agricultural representative in the area who was instrumental in founding the Grey Bruce Livestock co-operative.
Nominees this year are:
Jim Algie, former Sun Times agricultural reporter.
His nomination is supported by Grown in Grey, Grey Federation of Agriculture, Chatsworth agricultural society, and Grey soil and crop improvement association.
The Bruce county Federation of Agriculture nominated Dennis Watson of Dobbington.
A high school teacher he was instrumental in developing programs at Chesley high in animal science, and livestock management.
The Egremont and Proton federation of agriculture nominated Dorien D Jong, who is a certified organic milk producer in Southgate.
Other Nominees include
Markdale farmer Bob Brassington.
Elmwood sheep producer Murray Emke.
The Grey County federation of Agriculture nominated Conn area pork producer Wayne Caughhill.
Bruce County Federation of Agriculture nominated Robert Emerson, a former President of the Federation.
Grey Bruce pork producers nominated Wilma Jeffrey of Wroxeter for her work with Roots of Bruce.
The award will be handed out to the winner in a ceremony this evening at the Elmwood Community Centre at 6:30 PM.
