Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson will not be running for the top job of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party.
Wilson has instead officially announced he is throwing his support behind Tim Hudak who is from the Niagara area.
Wilson says Hudak is a well-liked person which is what the party needs for a leader not to mention the economic background Hudak has.
The local MPP says Hudak served in three economic posts as a cabinet minister and Finance Critic.
Wilson has known Hudak sine 1995 when he was appointed as Wilson’s Parliamentary Assistant when Wilson was the Minister of Health.
Jim Wilson says he decided not to run himself because of the financial committment since you have to come up with 50 thousand dollars just to enter the race.
But he tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he also didn’t want to be away from his constituents since being leader is a full-time, 10 year committment.
Wilson says anyone over 14 can become a member of the Ontario PC party for a 10 dollar fee meaning they can vote for the leader on June 21 or on the 25th.
But the memberships have to be purchased before May 14th.
He says a local polling station location hasn’t been chosen just yet, but in past races, it’s been in Creemore.
The results will be announced at the Leadership Convention on June 27th in Markham.
