A successful Earth Hour in Collingwood.
Ed Houghton, President and CEO of Collus, says people in Collingwood reduced power use by 10.88 percent compared to the normal usage the previous Saturday.
But that’s actually about 1.2 percent less than last year when it was at 12 percent.
However, Houghton says that’s because more people have been conserving on a regular basis since last year’s Earth Hour.
He adds many people are now using fluorescent light bulbs which use less energy so that would account for the slightly lower numbers.
He says the numbers in Collingwood were also better than the provincial average of 6 percent in energy reduction.
Houghton says it was also a success because over a hundred people rode the bus after hours, leaving their cars at home.
Colltrans extended its service from 6 PM to 11 PM on Saturday night.
