There could be an interesting future for the troubled auto manufacturing industry in Canada.
Bruce Power President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne recently appeared on Soundingboard on 98 the Beach.
That is when Hawthorne revealed he was a keynote speaker to 800 manufacturing executives in Windsor recently and talked about becoming suppliers to the world’s nuclear industry.
Hawthorne says there’s no doubt the nuclear industry globally is a growing industry.
The problem is the supply chain to the nuclear industry isn’t strong.
Hawthorne says it would take some bold decisions to possibly re-tool these manufacturers but he believes it’s a change that could bring benefits.
He says if Prime Minister Stephen Harper wants Canada to become an energy superpower then perhaps a step in the right direction is supplying the materials to the nuclear industry around the world.
Hawthorne also said Bruce Power is playing host to visitors from Saskatchewan soon.
The visitors will be citizens and landowners in the area of the north Saskatchewan River where Bruce Power is considering setting up a nuclear plant.
Also visiting Bruce Power this past week was a film crew from the Discovery Channel.
Bruce Power will be featured on their series, “How Did They Do That?”
Hawthorne says the segment should air sometime in June.
