Owen Sound residents were quick to flick off the light switch during Earth Hour.
On Saturday Evening — between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM — people were asked to conserve energy.
The City’s Environmental Superintendent Chris Hughes reports Hydro One says there was a 6.6 per cent reduction in power demand for the city during that period compared to what is normally used at that time.
Hughes says that compares to the 4.5 per cent reduction recorded during the first Earth Hour last year.
What is more impressive is that Owen Sound’s figure is better than the provincial average of 6 per cent reduction in consumption.
Hughes says its obvious the message about energy conservation is reaching residents of the city and the task now is to convince people to try and reduce their energy consumption all year long, not on just one evening.
