Thanks to the generosity of Owen Sound teenagers, some Caribbean schools have more literacy resources.
St. Mary’s High School students have just wrapped up a book drive for the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
Student Sarah MacArthur says more than 500 books were collected for various schools on the island.
They ranged from children’s stories, and novels to science fiction and encyclopedias.
MacArthur says the book drive was an important part of the St. Mary’s High School Lenten mission.
She says during Lent, Catholic students need to take time out to do something extra for the less fortunate.
In keeping with Lenten traditions the students are also collecting funds for the Share Lent program.
All monies collected will be sent overseas to developing nations.
