Saugeen Shores is all for Earth Hour.
That special hour goes tonight when everyone is asked to shut off their lights and anything that uses energy, where possible for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30.
Saugeen Shores councillor Victoria Serda says the municipality is one of 208 communities in Canada that have registered with Earth Canada to be part of the global exercise.
Serda says two special events are happening in the municipality tonight.
Legault’s Independent Grocer is shutting down its lights in the store, the parking lot and the nearby gas station and everyone is invited to come and enjoy the true night sky, weather permitting.
The event is being put on by the SDSS Planeteers environmental action group and the Astronomical Society will be there with equipment to view the night skies up close.
If tonight doesn’t work out weather-wise they will try again tomorrow night.
Also the Emerald Sanctuary at the corner of Mill and Bricker Streets is hosting a gathering with light refreshments, music and then a chance to visit by candlelight with your friends and family.
Admission there is by donation.
Everyone is welcome.
