Laid off PPG workers in Owen Sound are somewhat optimistic but also being realistic about finding new jobs.
Some 100 former Glass plant workers have registered with the PPG New Beginnings Action Centre.
CAW local 248 president Jack Cutting says many of the long time employees hold out hope of finding work in the area, but admit in today’s climate they’ll likely have to take a cut in pay from what they are used to getting.
Cutting says a handfull of workers have managed to find new jobs in the Grey Bruce area.
However he says it is tough for some who have spent over 30 years at PPG with many holding only an elementary education.
The Action centre helps with resume writing and trys to match posted jobs with those looking for work.
PPG halted production in December and Cutting says about 10 people are there now mothballing the plant and preparing to send equipment to the States.
At one time, PPG had more than 600 workers in the 1970’s.
