A word to the wise in Brockton.
The free lunch is over when it comes paid public parking in the municipality.
Mayor Charlie Bagnato and council have instructed the bylaw enforcement officer to start ticketing vehicles that over-stay their welcome in metered parking spots.
Bagnato says the bylaw has always been in effect but enforcement of it was spotty at best.
Now, he says, the blitz is on.
Bagnato says people–many of them employees of area businesses–are violating the two hour limit.
He says it goes against what the municipality is trying to achieve here.
Bagnato admits the municipality has been pretty lenient in the last year or two on the issue but that changes immediately and illegally parked vehicles will be hit with a 30-dollar parking fine.
Bagnato says it’s already started.
In less than 24-hours after council gave the directive, Bagnato personally has received a handful of calls — all complaints from motorists getting parking tickets.
