Fireworks in South Bruce Peninsula over the issue of firearms.
More than 60 residents attended last night’s Council meeting to hear about a bylaw which would prohibit and regulate the discharge of guns or others firearms close to buildings.
Council defeated a motion to hear the first and second readings of the bylaw.
The proposed law would ban firearms discharged within 200 metres of a building, unless there was written approval from the property owner.
Instead Council will hear from the public at the April 7th committee of the whole meeting and at the April 14th council meeting.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert says after hearing from residents they will decide on how to proceed with the bylaw.
Gilbert says the bylaw was designed after a letter was sent to Council last year regarding stray bullets.
A Red Bay resident had stray bullets from hunters go through his window — and asked Council to review the town’s current bylaw.
