The OPP have issued a warning about yet another scam.
The new scam targets businesses who have multiple vehicles and drivers on the road.
According to Police, a company identifying itself as “BDO Agency” with a Montreal address sends out a “Notice of Claim.”
The recipient receives the notice in the mail and is told they owe money related to a traffic ticket in the province of Quebec.
It is strongly suggested you “pay this immediately” and offers the opportunity to use a credit card — complete with the 3 digit confirmation on the back of the card.
The document also contains a 1-800 number — but when called, it just rings to a fax machine.
Police say you know it’s fake because there is no offence date, location or even vehicle or licence plate information.
Instead, this scam hopes a business won’t give it much thought and they’ll just pay it, assuming one of their drivers got a ticket.
